Scorpions have thick tails containing venom of varying potency. Some kinds of scorpions aren’t deadly, but many, including the black spitting thick tail scorpion, can prove fatal when they sting you. Even if a sting doesn’t kill, it can cause severe paralysis.
The fact that scorpions have a penchant for creeping into unexpected places makes them even more worrisome. Towels, shoes, blankets, and camping gear are all fair play to a scorpion looking for a space to hide, and it won’t hesitate to strike if you disturb it unknowingly.
