6. People Race Dragon Boats
Sure, Indians have boat racing in the south but do the boats look like dragons? Nope. The Dragon Boat Festival is held during the Duanwu Festival in the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. It usually falls under late May to June. The celebration has been observed for over 2000 years to commemorate Qu Yuan, a folk figure, and to ward off evil and disease.
Yuan’s spirit is believed to transform into a water dragon after he drowned himself, having received tragic news. The legend turned tradition involves eating sticky rice dumplings and organising rides with dragon shaped boats.
